Culture and Tribes
Indonesia’s national motto is “Unity in Diversity” and these islands are home to some of the most ancient and interesting tribal cultures on earth, such as the Dayak in Kalimantan and the Mentawai in Sumatra.
Over 100 separate tribal groups survive in the province of West Papua alone. DAMAI is pioneering seaborne expeditions to give guests a rare opportunity to immerse themselves for a few days in ways of life that have not changed for centuries. We are offering two itineraries at either end of the archipelago: to the Siberut and the Mentawai islands and the Siberut National Park, and to West papua in search of the Asmat tribe and the Korawai tree people.
